Edgewood Treatment Centre Expansion (2007)
Commercial Renovation
2121 Boxwood Road
Nanaimo, BC
Completion: May 2007

Project Description

Edgewood is an addiction treatment facility established over 15 years ago which has received international acclaim. Its programs aim to address both physical and emotional needs of persons suffering from addiction. With the success of their rehabilitation programs, their existing facility was becoming too constrained, despite a previous expansion in 2000. This expansion would see the addition of 9,250sqft of floor area to accommodate a new lobby, expanded kitchen and dining room, new exercise facility, new meeting rooms and staff amenity space. These additions mandated a complete retrofit of the services to the building. Significant upgrades to the site were also completed to bring the landscaping into step with the caliber of treatment Edgewood provides. These included a new pond, a cobble stone bridge, a heavy timber walkway, new exterior amenity areas and a new circulation roadway.

Due to the nature of the services Edgewood provides, no shutdowns were tolerable during the renovation. Careful planning enabled all work, including the front lobby, kitchen and dining hall renovations, to be completed while maintaining Edgewood’s day to day operations. The completed renovations fit seamlessly with the existing building and greatly improved the functionality of the building and brought both the site and facilities up to Edgewood’s high standards.
